Abstract

Absorption series of ground-state atomic fluorine, 2p5 2P3/2,1/2, have been observed in the 730–620 Å wavelength region with the helium continuum. These series have been identified with n s and n d Rydberg series converging to the four lowest states of F ii, 2p4 3P2,1,0 and 2p4 1D2. Fourteen new F i lines observed in emission in the wavelength region 9519–5166 Å are also reported. As a result of these observations, more than a hundred new F i energy levels have been established. In addition, six new O i absorption lines are given.
