Abstract

The interaction of four waves in the resonant cascaded surface-emitting second-harmonic-generation structure is analyzed theoretically. The inherent waveguide birefringence is shown to result in the large self-phase modulation as well as in the self-rotation of the polarization direction. The equivalent nonlinear index of refraction is calculated, and the potential device applications are considered.
