Abstract

Optical bistability (OB) in a unidirectional ring cavity with a three-level Λ-type molecular system with nonzero permanent dipole moments is discussed. We found that in the (2+2)-transition processes, the permanent dipole moments induced new quantum coherence effects which lead to controlling the OB behavior of the system. Moreover, we showed that the group velocity can be switched from slow to fast or vice versa under specific conditions of difference in permanent dipole moments of the probe transition.
