Noncritically phase-matched frequency conversion in Gd_xY_1–xCa₄O(BO₃)₃ crystal

Abstract

A nonlinear optical crystal ${\mathrm{YCa}}_4\mathrm{O}{\left({\mathrm{BO}}_3\right)}_3$ (YCOB) is phase matchable for third-harmonic generation (THG) of a Nd:YAG laser by type  I mixing between 1.064 and $0.532 \mu \mathrm{m}$. By partial substitution of Gd for Y in YCOB, a solid solution ${\mathrm{Gd}}_x{\mathrm{Y}}_{1-x}{\mathrm{Ca}}_4\mathrm{O}{\left({\mathrm{BO}}_3\right)}_3$ gradually changes the phase-matching angles of THG to $\left(\theta ,\varphi \right)=\left({90}^{°},{90}^{°}\right)$. We present the properties of noncritically phase-matched THG in ${\mathrm{Gd}}_x{\mathrm{Y}}_{1-x}{\mathrm{Ca}}_4\mathrm{O}{\left({\mathrm{BO}}_3\right)}_3$ $\left(x=0.28\right)$.
